Teaching English is quite the career now, and it offers a wide range of opportunities and experiences, especially if you are willing to travel. Here are just a few of the benefits of deciding to teach English abroad.
Looks good on a resume
Being able to teach in and of itself is an incredible asset on any resume, but having the experience of teaching English especially is a skill that many look for. People are always interested in learning a new language, either as a hobby or as a requirement, so the job is very stable. Above that, though, is the experience it allows you. In English speaking countries such as the US, it is harder to get a job teaching unless you have experience. By teaching abroad, you can gain that needed experience without as much competition.
Exciting new adventures and experiences
Being in a different country is always an exciting experience. There are always new foods to try, new places to go, and different things to see. By taking a job teaching abroad, you are able to experience all of these things without having to pay to go there on a vacation. Being able to enjoy these different surroundings is just one of the many perks of teaching English abroad.
The money is decent
Teachers in general are paid fairly well, and teaching English is no exception. Where you are situated will determine your pay rate, but in general it is enough to make a decent yearly salary and have some left over to enjoy the country you are in.
Learn a new language
If you are in a country whose primary language is not English, you may enjoy learning the primary language. It will certainly make your classroom interactions easier, as you can give small translations if the need calls for it. Depending on where you live and the prevalence of English, you may have to learn some of another language to do everyday things, such as getting groceries. Whatever the case, it is never a bad thing to pick up another language, even if you are not fluent in it.
